Thank you for getting in touch regarding geocaching.
I'm sorry to have to let you know that the conservation team has taken the decision not to give permission for geocaching on our reserves at present. The decision is based on our wish not to encourage the placement of additional infrastructure on our nature reserves. As you may image we have quite a few requests for this and we are concerned, both to keep infrastructure on our reserves to a minimum to give people a sense of 'wildness' and peace when they visit, and about the wider message it may send to other users in terms of it being acceptable establish their own drop boxes/ waymarkers/ route points on our reserves to the detriment of either wildlife or other users. We have had some incidences in the past of such things being set up without our knowledge which have caused problems. We are very grateful to you for seeking appropriate permission and hope this will not deter you from visiting Dorset Wildlife Trust sites for their wildlife interest.
