Highways England who maintain parts of the major road and motorway network in England have informed us that for reasons of safety and security geocaches are not to be placed on the road network and supporting infrastructure they maintain. This includes the whole motorway network and some of the main A road network. Supporting infrastructure includes but is not limited to, slip roads, lay-bys, culverts, underpasses, bridges (both over and under the motorway/road), and structures such as gantries and roadside cabinets road signs, traffic lights, armco barriers. Highways England are not responsible for motorway service stations which are privately owned and where normal permission guidelines apply.
