View Full Version : New website design and new look for forums

We're pleased to announce that our website now has a whole new look to it, and our new forums have a skin to match that, thus giving the website and the forums an integrated look that they've never had before. You can go directly to our website by clicking on the logo top left of our forum pages.

And you should be seeing the new look in our forums, but if you're not then do the following:

On most, if not all, forum pages, at the bottom left you'll find a dropdown menu which probably shows you "Default Style". Depending on your browser it may be labelled "Quick Style Chooser". If you click on the down arrow and choose "New Theme" you'll then see the forums with a theme matching our new website design.

If by any chance you don't like the new look of our forums, you can use the bottom left dropdown menu to go back to "Default Style".

GAGB would like to thank Ian (studlyone), who offered to do this redesign for us, and who has put in a lot of work getting it up and running despite some substantial database problems that have caused him more than a few headaches!

I like the green, it's my favourite colour :)

Just a small comment though - on the "old style" blue colour scheme the different forum sections headings were in dark blue, as were the Topic titles... and I see that they are still dark blue. Did you consider changing them over to dark green for this new site? Perhaps that would have made it just too much green? :D

The Big Green Bird says you can never have TOO much green.....

Anything is possible, if the committee want it like that it can be done. The links were left in blue as that is the colour that most people associate with hyperlinks.

If its the graphics and buttons you are refering to its an easy process to greenify them :)

I agree green is a great colour thats why I ddin't join the Navy or the RAF:D

PS One other thing to try is hitting refresh on your browser or clearing your browsers cache as your browser may be displaying the old blue pics instead of the new not so blue but green ones.

Maybe this isn't new, but I just noticed "Pronounced geo-khash-ing". Do we have to inkhlude a little khough after the k or khan we just khall it "gee-oh-kash-ing" ? :p

Seriously though it was just taken from the GAGB 'what is geocaching' page text >> https://www.gagb.org.uk/what-is-geocaching.php

I can't see the harm in it as it is but agree that 'Kash' would look better and could be more helpfull to someone trying to work out how to say it - Bill whats the verdict (it'll take less than 5 minutes to change it if required)? :dunno:

Well, in Australia they pronounce it "geo-kay-shing" (really - "G'day, I found a great 'kaysh' today"), so maybe "geo-kheh-shing" would be the way to go for them, if we've got a glut of the letter 'h' to be got rid of.

I'm not sure where "kaysh" comes from - is there another English word ending in "-ache" which is pronounced "-aysh"? (By extension from "headache", perhaps it should be "geocake"! :p)

Ian, I'm slightly uncomfortable with that h after the k, actually - perhaps we could ditch it. I realize that it wasn't your invention, and you've taken it from one of our existing pages, but I think that h belongs in the bin. :)

PUP, shouldn't that be peh-dan-tikh...? :p

Nick, I've never understood where the 'Strylyuns got that long a from, but then I've never understood 'Strylyun anyway... :p

I like the new colour scheme and appearance, except for the 'pronounced like' bit which seems totally redundant.

I like the new colour scheme and appearance, except for the 'pronounced like' bit which seems totally redundant. It's there purely for somebody without any background knowledge of the activity, such as a landowner finding the site who wants to know about geocaching. I'd hate to have the sport pronounced as geo-ca-ching ;)

I've heard it called geo-katch-ing and geo-kay-shing, so I do think the "pronounced like" bit serves a purpose.

Just wondering if "Contacting GAGB by phone (https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=207)" should be on the first/home page?
Surely the first page non-cachers -anyone that has found a cache accidentally- will arrive at.
Is it not better to have that sort of information where they can find it quickly?

edit.
Erm, OK, yes, it is there, but is it obvious enough?
