Has anybody tried to locate a cache on an English heritage site - I am interested in doing so near Dorchester in Dorset.
Any thoughts!!

here's a basic introduction letter that you can use.

I'm not personally aware of any attempts with them around there.

The easiest way is to find out who the local ranger/warden is and arrange to meet them.
Explain the hobby and maybe show them a geocache then see about placing one on the site. They tend to be happier if you suggest that they are with you when you palce the cache so that they can see if the location is a good one or not.

good luck.

I've just got permission to make the Castle Ring Iron Age Hill Fort an Earthcache. This is an ancient monument managed by English Heritage but owned by Cannock Chase District Council. I approached the Countryside Services at the council, and found their Phil Armshaw very enthusiastic once I'd explained that an Earthcache did not disturb the site, but educated visitors about the site.

That's really great! I think the more individual cachers who get permission for EH sites the better - word will spread in that organisation and maybe one day we'll be able to reach a national agreement with them. :)
