Any Suppliers of Magnets recommended..?

I have been looking around for a while for some decent small magnets available to buy.

I find fridge magnets and notice board magnets just not up to the job.

I once found a Micro 35mm cache that i had to pull quite hard to get off a road sign and the enclosed magnet was quite small. :wub:

I would like to find a similar type, and just wondered if anybody on here has used an outlet they could recommend.

They are the very fellows, also called earth magnets, I believe?
I've used a few of these on caches I've customized, and these little guys can really stick!
I bought mine on ebay, and as HH says, the keyword is Neodymium.

Generally called 'rare earth' magnets and are made of Neodymium Iron Boron but they need some sort of surface treatment like nickle plating. If the plating comes off, then they tend to disintegrate. If you can find them, magnets made of Samarium Cobalt are very nearly as strong and don't require any surface treatment; they will work 'raw' :)
If you have an old computer hard drive that's U/S then there are one, sometimes two, very strong magnets in them that are usually bonded onto a steel backplate with holes in. That can make attaching them to a cache box a bit easier. I went into a local computer repair place and asked if they had any scrap HDDs, told them exactly what I wanted them for and they gave me half a dozen. :)

The ones I get out of disk drives "suffer" from the nickel plating coming off, but that makes them easier to break into small bits - if you put too much on a cache box you can find that the magnet parts company with the box through the duct tape. The worst thing is that the plating can be quite sharp when you're trying to peel it off.

It helps to remove sharp edges and protects the nickel coating.:cheers:

Although you loose a little "pulling power". I find its better to glue, gaffer tape the magnets inside the container. Less chance of loosing the magnets.

I've just received delivery of several magnets, including a couple of boxed sets for Xmas presents. I can echo what was said about quality and delivery - top notch.

As for the magnets themselves, well all I can say is "Jesus H Christ"!!!! :eek::eek: Talk about powerful! I don't quite know what I'm going to do with the two disks about 1cm dia, each with a lifting force of 12kg (apart from being VERY careful :lol:)

We destroy ex-mil hard drives at work, and occasionally sod around with the magnets.. The nasty pinch cuts make you respect the power of Neodymium very quickly..
