Our two new members-only forums, primarily intended for the committee to be able to discuss its business openly in front of our membership, are now fully up and running. If you're a Member of GAGB, as opposed to solely being a Forum User, you should be able to see the new forums. If you can't then please post here or PM me. Thanks!

Not seeing them, as I'm listed as a forum member (joined back in '06).
Looking through the memberlist, only a handful of usernames are down as a GAGB Member. Hopefully Stuart is still chasing this?

We are in the process of debating and trialling some changes to the way that embership of the GAGB is recorded. This will be debated in the members forum. I have corrected your membership status for you as you joined prior to the 3rd May 2008.
Due to the number of inactive forum accounts it was decided to change the accounts that were definitely members (who had registered recently) and to do the rest as and when they return to the forum.
I hope that you enjoy and contribute to the new members forum.

Your membership thingy says that I'm a member of the GAGB but I don't see any 'members only' forum. Where should I be looking?

On the main forum page, just above this General Geocaching topic, you should see two topics:
Members' Chat
Committee Discussions

Ahh.... got 'em. Some bright spark had painted them green so they merged into the background  Thanks for the pointer... :D

Not wishing to cause a rumpus, but it would appear that quite a few "members", notably the longest standing, were not invited to vote at the last election.
Given the low voting numbers what does this do to the validity of the last election?

I didn't realise anybody had been invited to vote....
Bill did a very good job of reminding people both here and on the Groundspeak forums at every stage in the process, and I would imagine that most people with an interest found out that way.....

Members were asked to check their membership at the time of the election

Using the form provided in the post above. Membership of the GAGB is annual and needs to be renewed.
The form checks you membership, then presents you with
"I wish to renew my annual membership of the GAGB:"
I've just tested this using 'Lost in Space' and renewal of your membership was accepted and a notification e-mail sent to the e-mail address help as part of your forum membership.
Cheers
Stuart

As a point of clarification, completion of the GAGB membership verification form
https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/register.php
Will query the database of GAGB members at or prior to 9am BST on 3rd May 2008.
To continue your membership, and be granted access to the members only forums you need to check the
"I wish to renew my annual membership of the GAGB:" box.
At this point you will receive a confirmation e-mail, and details of your membership will be forwarded to the membership department, who will endevour to change your forums membership to reflect your (re)newed membership of the GAGB. This may however take some time , as we've typically got day jobs, or might not even be in the same timezone.
We aprreciate that the current membership system has problems, and are working to resolve these in the near future, I can however say that it's not going to be an overnight fix.

Again, not trying to cause a rumpus, (honestly), the following does not help me:-

The records did not show me as a member, as such I did not receive the e-mail requesting me to confirm my membership, so how could I renew it?

I've sent you a PM to try and understand further why you're having problems.

Hmm! I think I must have missed something as I couldn't understand why, although I could see the heading for the new forum, I couldn't see any threads.
I knew that I was a member as I had been so for several years and I voted in the election. However I just checked the membership page and I saw:

To join the GAGB please complete the following information
etc...
Strange! Anyway I'll just go and re-join in the hope of seeing what I'm missing.

Hmm! (again ;)) I tried renewing and got the message:
Membership of GAGB
GAGB Membership confirmation and renewal.

Please ensure that you have entered a membership name.
Is this right? I've had no confirmation e-mail.
Edit to say that I now have access so thanks whoever fixed it for me ;)

Well, the coding involved is beyond me, so let's just say that I did a string and elastic band job... ;)

There do seem to be some misalignment between the GAGB membership database and the website. (I also get a no when I check)
However I've had an email confirming membership, so am not fussed. :D
Keep up the good work. :applause: :beer::popcorn::socool:

Ok.
We've done some work, and hopefully the membership checking is now correct.
Anyone one who has renewed their membership, or has joined since the 1st October 2008 will be listed as a member. All others need to renew their membership.
Note that it is still a manual task to add new or renewing members to the GAGB member group on the forums.

Andy33, you need to renew your membership using the form at the following address as it is showing you as a forum member but not a GAGB member:
https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/register.php
Once you register there may be a slight delay as the forum account settings are changed manually.

Thanks IanNo problem, glad to see its sorted for you now.
To quickly summarise for anyone else reading this thread, membership of the GAGB is seperate to forum membership and membership of the GAGB must be renewed annually. You can check whether you are a current GAGB member by following this link:
https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/register.php
Changes to your GAGB membership status have to be manually changed on the forum side of the site so please allow a short delay whilst we process your membership renewal.

I must have missed something somewhere as I thought I was a member - I never realised I had to renew annually. I was reading the thread about the elections and thought "what elections" so now I know why.
