I don’t know if this has been mentioned/discussed before (apologies if it has) but, whilst browsing in our “Johnny Junks” shop (local expression!), I found they were selling several containers in the Addis “Clip & Close” range. These look virtually identical to the ones being sold through various geocaching outlets, such as the standard Groundspeak “set of three” which are selling for between £17 and £18 – the boxes are 240ml, 500ml and 1.5L. Admittedly, these have the word “GEOCACHE” embossed on the lid and come with official stickers (some come with small notebooks which are rubbish, by the way, and fall apart almost as soon as you open them!) but the prices of the Addis range seem to compare very favourably; you can see them here (http://www.addisshop.co.uk/sub_category.php?sub_category=clip_close). These are the sizes and prices of the ones my local shop had in stock:-

Rectangular
180ml – 4”x3”x2” - £1.20
900ml – 7”x5”x2” - £2.60
Larger than above (didn’t note the size) - £3.99

Round
3½” diameter (lid 4”), height 4¼” - £1.89

As you will see, these prices are lower than those on the Addis site and, needless to say, I’ve now got a drawerful of various sizes! I can’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be used as they seem comparable to the Groundspeak variety. Does anyone know any different?

I've not come across them, but from the photos on their site they look fine. With lock n lock type boxes the most common problem (with some types) is the catches breaking off.

Unless anyone has any experience of using the Addis ones, only time will tell on that one. But at those prices I would think they'd be good value even if you had to change them every year or so!

I'm off to Bakers Yard in Exeter tomorrow to check out the containers suggested by Happy Humphrey and Keehotee. I'll let you know whats available and take orders. Ideal Container (https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1902)

Somewhere in the UK there is (or was) a cache where the container's an old car parked up in a field. :)

Yes, I remember hearing about that one. Can't recall the details though...

Ah, yes, thanks Tony, that was the one! I'm sorry to see that it was vandalised and archived though.

I've been out to Bakers Yard and there's been a bit of a price hike since Keehotee spotted the Highlander boxes at Christmas, they are now £3.99 each! However, while I was there I found a HUGE Ammo Box 800mm x 800mm x 20mm, perfect for fitting in plenty of trade items and travel bugs, hamsters, small dogs, children, bicycles etc.

If you make a cache out of it, I'd recommend you don't say it's an Ammo Can...
They tend to "dissappear"...

Sorry, I'm going totally off-topic here, but "Bear and Ragged Staff" rang a bell when I first saw your user name, but I couldn't think why. Handsyhands post prompted me to do a search, and now I know where the land of the Bear and Ragged Staff is. :)

Congratulations!
You've solved the puzzle, now you can go and find the cache!

I think that this refers to a different thread;
https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1902

I'd say that even at £3.99 they're good value, as these small boxes are pretty much ideal for caches and much better than the ones for kitchen use (good though they are) at a similar price level. Mine seem to be performing well in the field.

I couldn't agree more, I tied mine to a brick and threw it into a water barrel. I pulled it out again today after nearly a week of submersion and there's not a single drop of moisture inside. :applause:
