One thing I notice almost every time I see logs of people doing caches and nearby trigs, or YOSM, is everyone always has the urge to climb on it. Why?

Let me just say that I see trig points as (very young) heritage and think they should be preserved rather sooner then later.

Hence I seriously do not get the 'must stand/lay/do xyz' on top of the trigs.
Mayybe I'm just odd, dunno

I suspect that few serious trigpointers make a habit of this. I certainly have never done so, that might be partially due a lack of gymnastic prowess. I have sat my son on top of a pillar for a photo.

I agree with your point about heritage, and I suppose that in theory repeated pillar ascents could lead to damage. But to be honest, rabid farmers and council bureaucrats pose a far more realistic threat.

Must mean I'm a serious Trigbagger...
I've never stood/sat/other on a trig, nor had the urge to.
I usually pat them -if it's one you can reach.

Yes, I see them as part of our heritage!

(I have leaned against them though, whilst admiring the view  :coffee:)

I see them as part of our heritage too. I've touched them and leaned against them, but I've never climbed onto one, or tried to.

Have to admit i'd feel quite pleased to be able to get on top of one, never achieved it yet, so console myself with a congratulatory slap!!

Can honestly say I've never had the urge to climb on one - by the time I get to it I haven't got the energy left!

This facebook group may explain the compulsion...

Thanks, Bill. One of a series of geocaching video diaries that I've put together over the last week or so.
