OK, this sounds like fun.
I have not got a clue.
I thought my sat nav was a gps but obviously not.

I live in Breightmet, Bolton, BL2 5JE.
I drive and am familiar with some of the surrounding areas such as up
to 20 miles away.

I am on reduced income and therefore want to know that I will enjoy
this before I rush out and buy all the gear with no idea.

I recently had surgery to remove bowel cancer so mobility is a small
problem but I can walk.

I am looking at joining this hobby from a photography angle.

Anyone willing to buddy up and show me the ropes and advise what is
needed and how much to pay on say ebay etc would be most welcome.

Hi Boltonian,

If you've not already tried there is a North West cachers forum (http://www.nwcaching.co.uk/index.php)

and welcome to the forums:cheers:

And there's an event coming up next month just up the motorway from you here http://coord.info/GC2K978 so you can go along and meet some local cachers, and if you haven't decided on a GPS by then you'll have a chance to have a play with some.

Welcome!

If you can make the event, let them know you're going, and that you are new... They can look out for you when you arrive and make sure you are looked after, and not left out of things!
(Not that you'd be left out of things for too long! )

Does make things easier, if you use the same name here and on the Groundspeak forums!

(And any other UK caching forums... Just so we know we're talking to the same cacher, and not someone with split personalities.)

Welcome Boltonian!

I work in Bolton and live in Burnley, going to get to the Banish the winter blues which will be my first event and first time meeting other cachers as well. Hope to see you there!

It is possible to change your name on the Groundspeak forums & geocaching.com, I think you have to Email them through their contact address on the geocaching.com site.

If you login to your geocaching.com account and select 'view your account details' from the right hand column. No select 'Edit' in the Your Profile box, you should now see an option to change your username, right next your username.
Hope this helps

Should work, unless there's another Boltonian, which there doesn't seem to be... yet!
