People Holding Trackables

Okay so a few people on Jacaru's facebook have discussed about people holding trackables and not bothering to move them on.

I have recently joined a race and have two trackables in it, one is going strong and the other has been in the hands of another Geocacher for exactly 1 month today.

I am not sure how to approach this as this is my first one I have had stick with someone. Do I contact them and tell them to get their backside into gear or take the other approach and plead with them to move it on?

I would like to know others opinions, not only what I should do but what their experiences with lost trackables and people keeping or holding them for a while.

IF they reply!

I'd begin with the softly softly approach, as BandR has suggested. If there's no reply I'd give it a week or two then try the same thing again.

If there were still no response it's just possible they've changed their email address and not updated it on gc.com so they might not have received your messages. I'd then look at their recent cache logs to try to identify other cachers in the area that they may know, who might be prepared to give them a gentle nudge.

If that fails I don't think there's really much more you can do.

Normally, I don't email anyone holding my trackables until at least 6 weeks has passed with my item being "dormant" but as this is taking part in a race I can understand that you'd like to jog the holders into action.

How about this?

"Thank you very much for picking up my TB "Whateveritscalled" a month ago. It's in a race and at the moment it's in 5th place (or whatever) and I'd really like it to go places and try to catch up with my mortal enemy "BigBadOtherRacer" TB. If you could help me out by placing it into another cache really soon I would really appreciate it.

Just a thought - it's possible that somebody has picked it up and not logged it properly and it may be languishing in a cache somewhere without anybody knowing ...

This may sound unlikely HOWEVER somebody I know very well picked up his first two travel bugs on Tuesday, got somewhat over-excited and has dropped them off 120 miles or so away without logging the original finds or taking the item numbers.

I've emailed the owners to explain what happened and where they are now

You could also email the Cache Owner and let him know what has happened and ask him if he could pop over to the cache and jot down the numbers and then log the TBs in on your behalf.

Just come back to this to take Mre B's suggestion and email it to the person who has my TB and how weird, she has placed it somewhere! The email came through 6 hours ago and the log is showing for 8 days ago so I am thinking she backdated it after forgetting to log it. She added a picture so thats cool!
