With so many cachers around, I don't know all that many personally, but I'd seen Sven.'s YouTube channels and read his forum posts. It's not the same as knowing the man, but it makes his passing that bit more of a shock. I'm very sorry to hear the news and my thoughts and hugs go out to his friends and family at this terrible time. It shouldn't make a difference, but when it's someone who's not yet lived a full, long life, the tragedy is only compounded.
RIP Steve - you'll be missed.

Did not know him personally but have had some heated debates across this and other forums. He had an ascerbic wit and some dearly held views. I shall miss crossing swords with him
RIP

I also didn't know him personally, but it's sad when anyone passes, especially one so young. My sympathies to his family and friends.

(I note there's no similar thread at the Groundspeak forum. I've considered starting one but wondered if there was a good reason one wasn't already running. I know Sven. had his 'ups and downs' with Groundspeak, but wouldn't a thread there also be appropriate?)

There is, but not in the UK section. Link to thread (https://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=290054)

Very sad news indeed. Steve will be fondly remembered for bringing us all a little light relief with his you tube videos! He struck me as an honourable man who had a real passion for the sport we all love so much; he was also someone who was prepared to stand up for his principles - a rare virtue indeed these days. My thoughts are with his family & friends.

Having found quite a few of the caches Sven featured on his excellent Youtube channel (most of which were his), and having failed to find a couple too, I felt like I knew what attracted him to the game.
I had some correspondence with him during his dispute over the videos, and I hope I helped encourage him to continue with his superb cache hides.

It was a great pity when so many of his caches were destroyed a couple of weeks ago, but that really pales into insignificance at the side of this tragic news.
RIP.

altough I have not personally met him I want to express my condolences to him and his family and express the beleive that had he continued in caching he would have become quite a political force to be reckoned with
