I have been given a Geko 101 Personal Navigator. By chance I came across Geocaching and now want to put the two together as this would combine my love of walking with another interest. However I am having a certain difficulty in working the GPS thingee. The instructions are unclear and the manual misleading. Can any one point me to any useful sources of information.
Many thanks Tarry and Tammy.

Hi guys,

We have a Geko 301 so should be able to help. Whats the problem?

Also you could look for a mentor to take you out on your first search. What area do you live in?

Hi Simon, thank you for the very rapid reply. Yes, I think that to have someone actually show me how it works is going to be mandatory! We are based in Wiltshire and the chance web connection was a lady called Daisy who has a cache on the Kennet and Avon Canal near Wilton which is our area, so will try and contact her. My guess is that if you have a 301, then our 101 is probably fairly simplistic. Like all technology one has to learn the basics. But it all looks like a very pleasant adjunct to just walking! - lovely though that is. Thank you again - Tarry & Tammy

Yes the 101 is the first in a series of three GPSr's and is the most basic. But it is ALL you need when geocaching. The most basic GPSr on the market is perfectly good enough to find those boxes.

If you need any more help with the Geko just holler. To take this off the bulletin boards you can contact me through my Geocaching profile (https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=833f4b77-2593-41c5-a311-1e6c1b8a2688) (assuming you have registered).

I hope you have a great time. When you finally get out there. Let me know how you get on.

Simon

Try the following link Geko 101 (http://www.garmin.com/manuals/Geko101_OwnersManual.pdf)

It's from the Garmin website where you can download the user manual for your GPS. You just need Adobe Acrobat.

Hope that helps!

Hi Simon, Thank you again for your words of comfort in October. At last my computer literate son has taken the time to explain things to me. Result - geo caches a sinch. Machine takes me to within 2 ft - yes unbelievedly 2ft. of the cache. Cant help but feel it is cheating! But is much more fun and now can play properly! Son lives in Majorca and I have imbued him with the idea, so watch the sites, there are only 3 there at the moment, but hopefully "Tess" will eventually appear with a few more. Thank you again and happy hunting.
