Irresponsible Caches?

I am very new to Geocaching and greatly enjoy this activity. However, I have found at least two caches hidden in dry stone walls and one in a hole deliberately dug into the ground. This is against the guidelines of the GAGB.

What, if anything, should finders do about such caches?

Mail the owner of the cache to (politely) draw their attention to the GAGB guidelines and request they move their cache to a more suitable location. You can mail them by clicking their name at the top of the cache page then clicking the email link.

Geocaching.com originally set the rule regarding not burying caches, so if you don't make any progress with the owner of the offending cache then you could mail a UK Approver (Lactodorum or Eckington).

This isn't the case for dry stone walls which is a GAGB guideline. Many of the permissions on our database require that GAGB guidelines be applied as rules on their land. Therefore a cache in a dry stone wall would not be permitted in those locations, although that particular requirement isn't a rule for geocaching.com (there aren't many dry stone walls in the US).
