Would a second hand Garmin etrex Vista HCx be good for a beginner Geocaching GPS unit in 2022 in the UK? Does anyone else use one currently that could let me know?

I've not actually used one of these myself, but I have spoken with someone who actually donated their old model to GAGB for newbies just to have a play with. He says these are one of the very older models and the maps on them are not very good. A better starter model would probably be the Garmin Etrex10.
Now a days many people use smart phones, with a good battery pack for back up it does everything you need. You can save offline lists so this then saves your battery life and data when out in the field.
