View Full Version : Recommended Suppliers.

I'm not sure if this would be allowed on these forums but I'll put the idea forward anyway.

I often see fellow cachers (particularly on GC.COM) asking what bits and pieces others use for caching and where can they be obtained. One thing that crops up quite regularly is re-chargeable batteries. As we have a forum dedicated to 'Help Offered' how about a forum dedicated to 'Recommended Equipment/Suppliers'? Cachers can give details of good service and deals they have received or come across e.g. the recent posting about the cheap fares to the Isle of Wight. The forum could have sub categories (if the software will allow) each one having a separate category e.g. Travel, Batteries, Nettle Sting Treatment :) . I know these postings could be just added to the 'general' area but they will eventually fall out of sight. Far better that they are in a dedicated area that can easily be located and read.

I realise that there may be shouts of 'commercialism' etc, etc. but I do think this would be a useful facility for both new cachers and the older hands also. Let's spread the word when we receive good value and service and allow others to share in our good fortune.

What do you think?

Sounds kewl! B)

I have a couple of recommendations to put forward myself: should I bung 'em in the "help wanted" bit for now? It would be a great idea to keep such threads quickly viewable rather than having to trawl archives to find 'em. GeoMuggles won't want to bother doing this or won't even know they can, so yeah: an extra forum would be a goer.
The way I see it, as long as you put the (as-near-as-dammit-obligatory) line "not associated with this company etc..." after a post I don't see any harm.

What say you, Mr Admin Sir?

I don't think a thread on recomendations is the way to go as everyone has different views.. That being said a thread that has comparisons of GPS, Pda's, batteries etc would be a better idea. This comes from a question posed on GC.com UK forum.

If there are direct comparisons then most folks can make ther own choice :)

Fully agree with Motley Crew's idea of an Area where info could be placed for the benefit of members with regard to suppliers of accessories i have just spent a day trying to find a source of a programm to use on an ipaq that gives a very basic gps screen, with a forum for this type of thing maybe it could have saved some time and Money.
great Idea

A very good web site for Batteries and memory cards is http://www.7dayshop.com/
they are in Guernsey and are one of the cheapest firms i have found

eg Uniross Ni-Hi rechargeable AA 2300mah 4 pack £9.29 p&p on orders 95pence

Note i have no commercial connection with this company,
this is just for the good of forum members :D
