Was waiting for someone else to jump in !
We always have a "Big Book of British Birds" in the Caravan, and a smaller one in the car. Have not turned into "Twitchers" yet, but always on the lookout for new birds. Have seen lots of

in our travels (Saw a pair of kingfishers this week whilst looking at the dawn on the lawn by the river at the Hotel I work at - brilliant colours and a lovely dawn)

Maybe you're right but it sounds like Ding Ding to me !! further to the magic lyrics:-
" At 20 miles per hour in the middle of of the road, and jackal taxi drivers can only swear and cuss. Its worth it just to ride inside that 30 foot long and 10 foot wide, inside that monarch of the road, observer of the highway code. That big six wheeler etc !!! "

Who designed a development which was Jerry built in the 1680's by a Property developer - George Downing - 1st Baronet, and is still standing today?

Off the top of my head, would that be the official residence of our local MP? the Rt Hon David Cameron and the rest of his ilk - now gated and guarded by London's finest ??

It would indeed. Winston Churchill wrote that Number 10 was "shaky and lightly built by the profiteering contractor whose name they bear."

    BUT Who designed them?

    Clue time

A mile or so to the east of this development, on another building he designed, is an inscription that says something like, "If you seek his monument, look around you."

Thanks - I carry a lot of reference books about in the caravan/car. Birds, wild flowers, National Trust, fungii, maps by the ton, but I always get a pocket diary in my "christmas tree present" bits and bobs. Inside cover - a complete map of London underground !!!(albeit now so small I am thinking about using a magnifying glass !!!) I digress.

If you ever get the chance to read Sir Ranulph Fiennes' biography of Scott of the Antarctic give it a go, a very good read.

    Anyway:

Yep, have read the book = have read lots of books on Scott and also Shackleton = both very brave and in a lot of ways very stupid, self centred, and self publicising. But ultimately both very English in the great "Empire" sence of the term.
    Anyways
The winners of the play offs of both American Football leagues (or conferences as they call them)This (apparantly) makes the winners the best American Football team in the known universe - for a year at least

Just watching the Formula 1, which is being led by Aussie Mark Webber who should be leading the world championship by the end of the afternoon as long as he keeps it on the track; hence:-

Name the two Australians who have been previous Formula 1 World Champions.
