    Default New GC rules

What are the rules in Geocaching?
    1. If you take something from the cache, leave something of equal or greater value.
    2. Write about your find in the cache logbook.
    3. Log your experience at www.geocaching.com.

Anyone else notice the change in the FAQ to the above ?
"If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning."

There's a Groundspeak forum thread on it: https://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/in...owtopic=199983

My slight worry is that some people will read the ironic posts in that thread (that's about 3/4 of them) and take them literally.

My slight worry is based on experience that some people will trawl the rules/guidelines for some specific wording that supports their view of things and then use that to prove that you are not complying.

    3. Log your experience at www.geocaching.com.
Taken to extremes this change would mean that anything Not listed on www.geocaching.com would by definition not be a geocache and anyone not using the site could not be called a geocacher.

And by the same logic, reading their guidelines, if you don't use a GPS but find a cache using a map and compass or GoogleEarth you're not geocaching -
    4. Choose any geocache from the list and click on its name.
    5. Enter the coordinates of the geocache into your GPS unit.
    6. Use your GPS unit to assist you in finding the hidden geocache.
    7. Sign the logbook and return the geocache to its original location.
But try mentioning that on the main forum and see what sort of Hornet's nest (haha) gets stirred up

I'm quite sure that you could open a topic in the geocaching.com forums about it with no problems at all. Indeed, people seem to do so every so often:

And look! The evil Americans even allowed the UK cachers to talk about it!
