Caching oddities

Ive noticed over the years a few odd caches in the UK they are not common but can be seen as unusual.

Puzzle caches placed before the puzzle cache was available.

A multi cache that is a virtual.

A cache with no terrain rating.

Moving caches.

A virtual that moves.

Anyone got anymore ?

dunno, think that about covers it, real oddities lol. I know of one where if you used an unusual container you had to list it as a '?' cache, hence why it's known as puzz/unknown cache ( I think).

Hmm, has GC.com ever had pocket caches? I think that sort of thing goes on over at terracachign, could you imagine an event of 100 ppl and they all have pocket caches, christ yer find would be through the roof lol

I thought terracaching was all about quality?

GC.com doesn't list pocket caches. But in a few US states people who find them at events log them by "attending" the event multiple times. (In other US states this is unheard of and people are appalled by it.)

They used to exist on GC before mobile caches were outlawed..... wonder if any are still in circulation??

I don't know enough about terracaching to know if pocket caches exsist or not, but suspect they do. I don't see the harm in them, if they're clevery thought out, and perhaps hidden well lol, a whole lotta fun could be had finding it.
I should imagine I could get in a whole world of **** if I carried a pocket cache. Imagine being stopped and searched by the fuzz. Explain the list of names away lmao!

Since all the names are nicks they'd probably think you were just playing some saddo Internet game and taunt you.

What some people might want to think about is the content of the boot of their cachemobile. My caching buddy WarCat has ladders, ropes, and a pair of heavy-duty bolt-cutters (in case someone padlocks the barrier to a forest road while he's "inside"). I reckon he could expect to get hauled in for "Going Equipped".

I have been thinking of putting out a 'parasite' cache which would travel from cache to cache and be placed very close to a cache. The co ords for the parasite would be in the cache it was parasiting from. It could be logged as a cache in its own right only the co ords would change as it travelled. A bit like a moving micro. g/c would not let it be placed because of the 'rules'. Sad really it worked well whilst letterboxing in the New Forest many years ago.

There are a few moving caches still around - not quite the same as your idea but similar. These things always sound like great ideas at first, and they are OK as long as there's not too many in existence. I suppose that's why the current ones haven't been banned.

But how would you stop hundreds of them appearing? And being placed in bad spots from time to time? And really, travel bugs and geocoins make better "travellers" - what's the difference?

If you are still keen, it can probably be listed on another site anyway (although that's likely to slow it down quite a bit!).

I've a bookmark list of the UK's Moving Caches, which might be helpful? When I tried to set up a roving cache, I was told I couldn't, but we came up with a smaller version of the idea. It was called... ROVER (Bucks). I believe something like this would still be listed under current GroundSpeak rules.

Just had a look at this Rover - neat idea. It looks as though it could still work...And you genuinely had to go and "find" your own cache.
