Here's a tip when you find a cache that is under a 'pile of sticks'.
Keeping a sharp look out for muggles, take the container a short distance away from the actual 'hide' before you open it up. Then if you are compromised with the box open etc, the muggles will not know exactly where you are going to replace the cache.
When returning the cache to the hide, remember to move any sticks that have fallen into the cache's void before putting the cache back in. Then cover the cache so that it looks 'natural'. A sprinkling of small sticks or bark followed by a handful of leaf litter thrown on top is quite effective.
Removing the sticks that were on top of the cache is important. If a cache is just lifted, then any sticks that were on top, fall, and if the cache is put back on top of these sticks, before long, the cache will be sitting on a small hill of sticks and become impossible to conceal.
