Default Groundspeak - planned downtime (Weds 15th Dec 2010 - morning)

    Copied from Groundspeak forum

As Groundspeak and Geocaching.com have grown, the demands on our production network infrastructure have increased significantly. As a result, on Tuesday December 14, 2010 at 8:00 PM PST (GMT -8), we will be performing a number of major upgrades to our production network. These upgrades include a new network design as well as new hardware to help increase the performance, scalability, and security of the network.

We're estimating that the downtime may take up to 6 hours, and during that time, all Groundspeak sites and services including Geocaching.com, the Groundspeak Forums, Pocket Queries, Geocaching Mobile Applications, and other 3rd party applications that access our API will be inaccessible.

While we're giving ourselves a 6 hour window to cover anything unexpected that might come up, we'll be doing everything possible to minimize the downtime and are confident that we'll have the site back up much sooner.

    Thanks,

Early hours Wednesday for us here in the UK...

May have some concern for those that have PQ's set, as they seem to be generated around midnight-ish, ready for the morning...

(That's if it's the same server!)

Just a reminder that this is happening in the early hours (4am) tomorrow morning ... for up to 6 hours.

Looks as if the changes have run into problems as I still cannot access geocaching.com at 14:30 GMT 14th December.

Any more news from other users??

Ahh... various bits of the website seem to be coming back to life as I write, so it should all be back soon.

The website banner now says "We have completed the infrastructure upgrade and are currently working to restore full site functionality. You may experience some hiccups while we ramp up."

I take this to mean that the hampsters have been allowed out for Christmas shopping, and they're just trying to round them all up again!

Logging finds a few hours ago was very hit and miss, with very slow reaction times, but it's getting better now. No sign of today's scheduled PQs yet, lets hope their queuing up somewhere.

Hamsters either 'a few still missing' or they've been to the pub whilst 'shopping' -site still "a little slow" *
