Exclamation Simply Paul's June 2013 '7th Most Remote Event'

Inspired by the question "Where Next?" after holding a cache event on Scafell Pike in 2006, since '07 I've been hosting events at far-flung and off-the-tourist-trail locations at a variety of spots around the UK. So far I've visited St Kilda in 2007 (way out west), St Agnes IOS in 2008 (way down south, UK), Unst in the Shetlands in 2009 (way up north), a tidal island off the south coast of Jersey in 2010 (way down south, Britain), Eigg in the Small Isles for 2011 (way away from the madding crowds) and Bryher IOS in 2012 (way out west, England).

As Scotland traditionally features every other year, I wanted another striking, special, and above-all, remote (or extreme) location north of the border for 2013. After my usual map-searching and Internet poking, I've decided on: N57° 12.832 W006° 14.083.

An update on my June 2013 plans.

As well as trying to clear Skye of caches (island clearance is a hobby) and hosting my 7th Most Remote Event there (June 22nd at the In Pin, for those who didn't check the co-ords), I also plan to walk from Glenfinnan to Inverie, for a revisit to The Old Forge (mainland Britain's most remote pub. Where better for a cache event?). This will be a two day hike, hopefully staying at A'Chuil bothy (for a 'Now^here' event) - This link shows the suggested route - which will take me/us past a couple of caches I failed to reach on a long (but shorter) walk in 2011. Ride back to Mallaig by boat, ride back to Glenfinnan by train.

I also have some another ideas for the trip being developed, but news on them closer to the time

GC3RJPA is up for review. If it passes the 6-month listing test, you'll see Britain's Seventh Most Remote Event (In Pin, Skye) on GC.com shortly. The date for your extreme/remote event diary is Wednesday June 19th 2013. Hope you can join me somewhere inaccessible. Somehow..!

    Cool

A fresh meet has been added to my 2013 tour of the Highlands and Islands, and it's another doozy at a location you may have long wanted to visit but never had a good enough reason to tackle it. Technically a drive-by spot, it's still a long way off the tourist trail:

Meet at the End (Mainland Britain's most Westerly) - A whale-spotting picnic meet with geotale and travel-item swapping on Thursday 13th June 2013, from 12-1pm. I suggest you bring your binoculars as it's an amazing spot for wildlife, to say nothing of views over to the Small Isles. A chance to pick up Mainland Britain's most Westerly Cache (which I'm visiting to refresh) and generally enjoy a relaxed moment between frantic caching

Other events are up for review at the moment, but I hope you can take a rare trip and join me here.

My other planned events have been reviewed and published!
    SP Events in June 2013:

Thursday 13th -GC47Y8J Meet at the End (Mainland Britain's most Westerly). Ardnamurchan Point on Scotland's west coast, and not Land's End, is mainland Britain's most westerly point. It's been home to this cache since 2007 and now it's playing host to a whale-spotting picnic meet (with both inside and outdoor locations, depending on weather) way out west. As you'll see from the event page, I have a bit of a record for 'extreme' events

Friday 14th -GC3TPTB Now^here* (A'Chuil Bothy, north of Glenfinnan). A choice of routes to this remote event means it's not just for hardcore people walking from Glenfinnan to Inverie on Knoydart. It's only about three miles from parking at the western end of Loch Arkaig, beyond Murlaggan, if you want the 'easy' route in! Candle-lit meet. Bring your sleeping bag and own tent, in case the bothy is full.

Saturday 15th - GC47YP4 Another Meet at the Old Forge (Inverie, Knoydart). Having loved this area when I visited in June 2011, I'm returning on foot for another cache meet in mainland Britain's officially-recognised most remote pub. With no access to the road network, the only way in is by boat (Mallaig is served by two regular small ferries) or via a long walk... Peace, great sea food and a very warm welcome. I also hope to place a fresh cache on Knoydart while I'm there.

Wednesday 19th -GC3RJPA Britain's Seventh Most Remote Event (In Pinn, Skye). Following on from St Kilda (07), St Agnes IOS (08), Unst, Shetland (09), Jersey (10), Eigg (11) and Bryher IOS (12), the latest incarnation of the event which 'takes you to places you might not otherwise have a reason to visit' is at the only Munro you can't just walk to the top of; The Inaccessible Pinnacle on Skye!

Thursday 20th - GC3XHJB "You take the High Road..." (Beallach na Ba, Applecross). The third highest road in Britain, a parking area with unrivalled views - across Skye and the Small Isles - for a 'drive-by' event. A far more accessible event than some of my others this year, this is a picnic (in-car picnic in case of bad weather) event at the top of this famous road which climbs and zig-zags over 2000ft in only a few miles; practically alpine. It's often near the top of Britain's Best Driving Roads lists so is ideal for fans of drive-by caches. And events

Friday 21st - GC3TPXB A Knight with the King & Queen of Piel Island CITO (Cumbria). Much further south, I visited Piel Island in 2012 and thought it would make a perfect spot for either a CITO event or a camping one. To keep it day-visitor-friendly, this meet is both! Plus there's a fancy-dress theme... And a pub. There's been a cache on the island since 2005 but I've been told a fresh one can be left on this island near Barrow-in-Furness while I'm there. Join me?

I hope one or more of the above will tickle your fancy and you'll come exploring some out-of-the-way places, SP-style. Every cache trip is an adventure, but some are more adventurous than others... :socool:

Giving this thread a bump as these events are less than a month away now. Looking forward to meeting several brave cachers in the highlands and on the islands next month, but also trying to encourage numbers up a bit, as I get lonely
