Thumbs up Return of the Geolympix!

The rumours are true. Announced at the spiritual home of the Geolympix - an Oxford pub - last Sunday, I'm happy to confirm the return of this Mega event... In three years time. Forward planning!

Friday 29th to Sunday 31st of July 2016 at a location in the South East of England yet to be made public.

Make a note in your Geocaching Diaries (5-Year version) and keep in touch with a slow trickle of Geolympix 2016 news via Twitter (@Geolympix) and Facebook (/groups/geolympix2016) for now. A new website will follow once it's needed, along with all the usual fundraising plava, merchandise (free fresh AANDs!) and so on.

You can read about the original event on its cache page and learn a bit about the Geolympix Mega 'model' (lots of fun stuff for stats-fans and cachers who like to challenge themselves) if you like

that's a bit bizarre the links now have
    https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/

prepended to them, and the : is missing from the real URL so what should be:

    http://coord.info/GC4J3PA

    is appearing as

    https://www.gagb.org.uk/forums/http//coord.info/GC4J3PA

With today's announcement of the August 15-17 German Mega at Munich going GIGA (the first - 5000+ cachers expected) we hope the 2016 Geolympix will do the same in the UK. Facebook users can keep in touch via http://www.facebook/groups/geolympix2016 or Twitter folks can follow http://www.twitter.com/geolympix for updates.

Be part of it! GC54AXR - Geolympix Discussion Meet #1 - Saturday July 26th, 2-4pm at the cafe in Ashridge Estate nr Berkhamsted in Herts - a possible G2 venue. Help shape the 2nd Geolympix: Team members wanted, suggestions sort, ideas desired, demands considered, objections noted... Action will be taken. Yes, the time has come to get this party started! Please join us by England's 2nd oldest cache (GC177) and the UK's oldest puzzle (GC18BC) to thrash out some plans. I love it when they come together

    Geolympix Mega: Ashridge 2016

    Accept the Challenge!

Announced on Twitter and Facebook earlier this month, the venue for the second Geolympix Mega (Sunday 31st July 2016) is the Ashridge Estate nr Berkhamsted, Herts. It's a free-to-enter National Trust property which is home to one of the 10 oldest caches in Europe, the UK's oldest Puzzle/Mystery and many other excellent caches. There's a launch event coming...

...And since the launch event is exactly a month away, here's the details of the Geolympix Launch Picnic - complete with Frolf, so bring a frisbee:

2-4pm, Sunday July 26th at Ashridge Estate (free entry, parking, loos, etc, plus a NT monument to climb, caches to find, cafe etc) north of Berkhamsted in Herts. Handy for the M25 (J20, A41) and M1 (J8-11), or 1 3/4 mile walk from Tring Station, it's at the venue for the Geolympix next year: GC5WW4G

It'll also be the unveiling of the Geolympix Roadshow stand, complete with some surprise additions to our plans, before it goes off to the Essex Mega (Aug 1st) and then on tour.
