No tree climbing on NT land

I have read in a Facebook group that the National Trust are not allowing any caches on their land which involve tree climbing. Can this please be verified.

All I have seen relating to this is an insistence in one location that appropriate safety equipment is used. Do you have any specifics?

The FC New Forest agreement was updated towards the end of last year and specifically prohibits climbiing:

Apparently the word is being put out by "parmstro" who is the NT/Geocaching liaison, and I've seen this reported on FaceBook by two cache owners who have been contacted about this.

Ha Ha, that's funny. So they're recommending you do 1 ( climb a tree) and 49 (find a geocache), as long as you don't do them both at the same time .

As Martybartfast has said parmstro is letting people know if they have caches on NT land.

A Facebook post has just been made which suggests this is relevant to Surrey only. Hopefully Dax will be able to clarify better, as custodian of GLAD.

My original post on Facebook made it all clear, but Chinese whispers seem to have entered in, so here it is:

"fyi - I am the coordinator for placing caches on NT land in Surrey, and have just been told that climbing caches of any kind (trees, rocks, abseils etc.) are not allowed any more on NT land in Surrey."

As it very clearly stated, SURREY only at this point.

I am meeting with the Surrey NT on Monday to discuss.

Try Googling Morden NT tree surgeon for a possible explanation.

Thanks for info Parmstro. If you could let the committee know the outcome of the meeting, then the Surrey NT agreement on GLAD can be updated.

This is getting confusing. There is a 'national' NT agreement in the GLAD for caches. But there is an increasing number of regional agreements - currently 5. The one for North Kent and Surrey (well, bits of Surrey) have completely different processes for applying for permission (contact a geocacher) to the national agreement (contact regional office). A couple of the NT agreements in the GLAD show as being under negotiation.

Could the whole country NT agreement be looked at to simplify things?

As requested by NT Surrey and update has been added GLAD stating that "Caches must not be placed up trees or on cliffs, where it would necessitate climbing or abseiling to retrieve them." At the moment it is only NT Surrey that has requested no climbing.
