    Smile Enabling free maps on a Garmin Dakota 10

    hello there, I am a returner to geocaching.just bought a Dakota 10, I think I have downloaded a free map to the Custom Maps file.now how do I enable the map so I can use it a the main map? Ant advice gratefully received.

    - First of all you'll need to download the map from e.g. openstreet maps.
    - Plug your Garmin USB cable* into the GPS and the PC. The Garmin Dakota will turn on in ‘mass storage mode’ and install itself as a device on your PC. You'll see a new icon in Windows Explorer for your device.
    - Open the folder called Garmin
    - Copy GMAPSUPP.IMG from your downloaded OSM maps into this folder.
    - Disconnect the Dakota and as you turn it on, it will recognize the map automatically.
