Default Nominations for Committee Members 2016/2017

    Hello GAGB Members:

Nominations for GAGB Committee for 2016/2017 will be accepted Friday-Monday, 11-14 November 2016.

All GAGB members who joined before 1 October 2016 are eligible to nominate another member or second a nomination. Members who have been nominated and seconded are asked to accept or decline their nomination in this thread.

This thread will be closed at the end of the nominations period and anyone who has not been seconded and accepted during this period will not be considered as a candidate for election.

The Election for the Committee will be held during Tuesday-Sunday, 22-27, November 2016.

Candidates for the Committee are requested to send their manifesto, photo (passport style, I can crop the photo for you if you need help) and geocaching avatar (if you have one) to me, Michael Malvick (Ladybug Kids), GAGB Independent Returning Officer (
    ladybugs@geocachealaska.org) by midnight, Tuesday, 15 November 2016.

After the nomination period has closed, nominee manifestos, photos, and avatars will be posted in a locked ‘Candidates for 2016/2017 Committee Elections’ thread as well as on the ballot so you may read about why each candidate is standing for election and the skills they would bring to the Committee if elected.

A ‘Committee Candidates(2016/2017) - Q&A’ thread will be open during the week leading up to the election where Members may ask the Candidates about their GAGB goals.

More information about the annual elections can be found in
the GAGB Constitution (Section N) and Seeker Issue 30.

In the meantime, it is important that you work with your internet service provider (ISP) to white list e-mails coming from the gagb.org.uk, geocachealaska.org and surveymonkey.com domains so you receive election news and ballots.

    At your service,

    Michael Malvick/LadybugKids
    GAGB Returning Officer

UKCACHEMAG (Adam Redshaw) - nominated, seconded, accepted
Leonards193 (Kim Leonard) - nominated, seconded, accepted
Abiherts (Abigail Hamilton-Thompson) - nominated, seconded, accepted

Richlay (Richard Lay) - nominated, seconded

There are eight committee seats available, so there is still plenty of room for interested parties to step up and serve GAGB at another level.

Nominees are reminded to send me their manifestoes, passport-type photos (I can do the photo cropping if you need help with that), and avatar. The materials should be sent to ladybugs at geocachealaska dot org. Please include "GAGB" in the subject line.

Nominations close at midnight, Monday, 14 November.

    Thank you for the nominations.

I shall not be standing for re-election this year.

The committee needs fresh energy and enthusiasm.

Please do not fritter the funds away.

As the previously accepted protocol of inter committee nominations has been broken and as I will not be standing, I am nominating Jen Harley.

I'd been hoping for an 8th person to offer themselves up - we need energy, ideas, people! - , but with just about a day to go I can see we only have 7 committee members. I know I'll be helping Sharon through the year anyway, so I may as well 'Accept' and take the 8th position! 'I accept' is the formula, yes?

ANYONE out there who wants to help just come on up and tell us your idea, what you can do to help, write an article, offer up a suggestion for newbies, get a local landowner agreement for some major organisation near you, or bring your skills to event handling! We're hear to help reduce the 'causes' of disappointment and upset - as I see it anyway - and help make geocaching in GB more fun! - Help us to make that happen!

Thanks Rich & Lilian, but after mulling it over for some time, I have finally come to the decision this evening not to stand again.

Therefore, I am declining the nomination.

It's a shame that we are losing two of our longest serving and committed committee members, Jen & Rich. You will both be very missed. A BIG thank you to all the hard work you have both contributed to the GAGB and the wider UK Geocaching community. All the best for the future.

Thanks Sharon. It is going to feel slightly strange after being on the committee for the past 6yrs.

I'd also like to say a big thanks to Alan (twoofnine) who had already stated in the annual report that he wouldn't be standing again this year (unless someone can change his mind and a non-committtee member nominate him in the next 6 hours).

Despite only joining the committee a year ago, Alan has got stuck in and has made a lot of good progress. e.g. GLAD Manager position - including reviewing/updating existing agreements, Corresponded with several landowners & working with Graculus to update the maps are just a few of the things he did. I am sure he will be missed.

Thank you Jen and Sharon for your very kind words. I wish the new committee all the best for the upcoming year. I am still here if you need any advice on the GLAD thingy.

Yes, it is sad to lose the experience of Jen & Rich, who have both helped me over the last year. Good luck to you all!

As of midnight, Monday, 14 November, the following GAGB members are confirmed candidates for the GAGB committee.

border caz (Caz Turver) - nominated, seconded, accepted, manifesto received
Abiherts (Abigail Hamilton-Thompson) - nominated, seconded, accepted, manifesto received
UKCACHEMAG (Adam Redshaw) - nominated, seconded, accepted
Leonards193 (Kim Leonard) - nominated, seconded, accepted
Griff Grof (Arthur Griffiths) - nominated, seconded, accepted
Skippy and Pingu (Adam McCreadie) - nominated, seconded, accepted
Grahamthegray () - nominated, seconded, accepted
Antreid (Ant Reid) - nominated, seconded, accepted

Richlay (Richard Lay) - nominated, seconded, declined
Maple Leaf (Jen Harley) - nominated, seconded, declined

There are eight GAGB Committee positions and exactly eight candidates, so an election is unnecessary. Therefore, I do not require the candidates' manifestoes and photographs.

I wish GAGB and the GAGB Committee a most successful 2017!

    Sincerely,

    Michael Malvick/Ladybug Kids
    2017 GAGB Returning Officer
