The kids at my school will place any main course inbetween 2 slices of bread as a sandwich, lasagne, shepherds pie, spag bolognese, chicken casserole, anything !

Not bizarre perhaps, but I often make what my kids call 'Super Sarmies'. They are about a good inch or so thick and usually contain (depending on whats in the fridge) cheese, ham, lettuce, tomatoe, cucumber, salad cream and pickles between two slices of wholwheat bread. I'm drooling just describing them! Guess what's for lunch tomorrow. :P

Does that not make it a salad sarnie?

The one that I am tempted to try is cold christmas pud and cheese!

    christmas pud and cheese.... yum
    likewise the shepherds pie....

have to admit as a kid i used to put crisps in with whatever sandwich i took to school.

salad????!!!!! that's only weird because it's healthy. a sandwich is not meant to be healthy. it's handy comfort food. designed so you can eat it while doing something else without making too much mess!

Oh yes! Any sandwich can be greatly enhanced with a liberal application of crisps... or, better still, sour cream and onion Pringles.
Except, possibly, sliced banana sandwich on brown bread with a discrete sprinkling of demerara sugar for added crunch.

The two weirdest sandwiches I have heard of but not tried yet are

    marmite and cucmber
    marmite and banana

I'll try them one day when I can pluck up the courage. Love marmite but not too keen on cucumber.

When I was a kid I used to have various sarnies including

    Sugar
    Condensed milk
    Hundreds and thousands
    Mashed banana and jam

And to this day I still swear by mashed potato sandwiches.

The Farmers' Market near to us sells Marmite cheese, very nice it is too

Just to broaden the scope of this thread...

What and where was your most memorable "al fresco" meal?
    (With or without Marmite accessories)

    Peanut butter and teeth.

Now let me expand on that...

When I was a nipper and had wiggly teeth, at the point they were ready to drop out i used to help them by eating crunchy peanut butter sarnies.

One of those crunchy lumps ended up being the tooth in question...
