    By historic, I mean almost pre-historic (in radio terms).

    Erm, how can I give another clue without giving it away...

    I don't think I can.

    Anyway, a few more clues. The radio station you are looking for (not the cache) was transmitted from the 7th floor of a building opposite Somerset House, London. The station was transferred to the British Broadcasting Company.
