⭐ The Red Squirrel Run is our Featured Series for January 2026 ⭐
⭐This month we’re highlighting a new geocaching series with a strong local theme — a Red Squirrel–inspired Matrix series set in Thetford Forest.
Red squirrels were once found in Thetford Forest but are now effectively extinct in the wild there, with the last known colony disappearing in the 1990s following the spread of the invasive grey squirrel. This series is a thoughtful nod to a species once part of the forest’s landscape.
The series is a full D/T Matrix, providing every Difficulty/Terrain combination to complete a Wherigo DT grid. Higher D/T caches are mostly fishing caches, so you’ll need a 6–8 metre pole, and tweezers are recommended as many logs are on write-in-the-rain paper.
All caches are placed next to or very close to footpaths. Some paths may not appear on maps, but waypoints are provided for access — please stick to footpaths at all times. As reception can be poor in the forest, downloading the series in advance is strongly advised.
There are multiple parking options, and although the series is numbered, caches can be found in any order. ⭐
🚶8 Miles – Though can be split into 2 loops of 5.6 miles, and 2.4 miles
