Gnome away from Gnome
The Gnome Games is a family fun day with a difference! The games and activities are related to our garden dwelling cousins, Gnomes.
Gnomic Traditions
The first games were held at Norley in 2015. They were a little bit of friendly competition between the Gnomes of Wirral and members of the Wirral Gnome Society on one side and the Cheshire Gnomes and members of the Cheshire Gnome Trust on the other. Many Gnomes (with their friends) also came from around the world. After the parade of team colours (and anthems) there were several fun games for both children and adults, including a wheelbarrow trundle, welly wanging, toadstool sitting and a flower pot relay. Each event was scored so that each teams points are added together to try and win the coveted prize of “The Ashes” (the remains of the first Gnome King's pointy hat). The games close with the presentation ceremony of medals for members of the winning team, and the lifting of the trophy.
The following year the games moved to Elm Cottage near Winsford. The word had spread around the country and there were many other attendees from afar. Many camped for the whole weekend and the weather was excellent for the games. There were lots of fun new activities for young and old as well as the traditional events.
Ha ha ha, he he hear, Where are the Gnome games, going this year?
The fun-packed Gnomes Games are returning for a third year, and this year the Gnomes have invited us to hold them in their own backyard, amongst the hedgerows and fields of Cheshire. They are being held on the afternoon of Saturday 3rd June near Oakmere, Cheshire, and everyone is welcome to come along and either participate or just watch the fun. See GC71N91 “The Third Annual Gnome Games” for more details.
Now Name the Gnome Games
To celebrate the third staging of the games, there will be some new games including one where it’s within the rules to legitimately hinder the opposition, a best dressed Gnome competition open to adults and children as well as traditional events being held to keep the spirit of the Gnome Games going.
Fayre enuf, mate!
There will be a summer fayre feel to the event with future UK Mega teams, the GAGB and geocache merchandise sellers being invited to attend and have stalls with coins, TBs and various Geocaching related goods on sale. The organising team will also be selling their trackable Gnome Games tags and their “New for 2017” Gnome Games geocoins as well as taking orders for personalised hoodies, fleeces and polo shirts.
Is there anywhere for a metrognome like me to stay?
For those wishing to visit the area for the whole weekend there is plenty of local accommodation including campsites, country inns and hotels. The Gnomes have promised to hide some new caches for the weekend and thank everyone who rolls up their sleeves and gets involved in Sundays CITO event.
So put 3rd June in your diary for a weekend in Cheshire and get ready to don your wellies, pointy hats and long grey beards for the biggest and best Gnome Games yet! It’s not only the youngsters who enjoy all the Gnome themed games!
There’s no place like gnome, so come along and get to gnome us!
