Description

DEFA recognise geocaching as being a healthy, fun adventure activity and will consider applications to place a geocache on the land managed by them.

All geocaches must follow the guidelines available from geocaching.com and the GAGB. Those placing and seeking geocaches on DEFA land should be aware that forests are a working environment so care should be taken and all notices observed carefully. Also many amenity forests are used for a variety of leisure pastimes and you may encounter those following other pursuits in the same area, for example cycling and horse riding as well as pedestrian activities.

It is particularly important that you enter a forest with clean footwear. It is also important when leaving a forest area that you make sure your footwear is clean. This is to ensure that diseases that affect plants and trees do not get passed from forest to forest.

A map overlay (.kml) showing the areas covered can be downloaded here.

The map overlays can be downloaded and opened in Google Earth which is a free download for a PC and also as apps for Apple and Android. (N.B. These maps do not form part of any legal representation of land ownership and are created simply as a guide to areas for the purposes of placing a geocache container or marking an area where these are not permitted).

A temporary map on the IoM Conservation Areas can be downloaded here.
