Description

We have had several requests for caches at Worms Head, and following discussion with a number of people including the Coastguard, we are at the moment saying no.

I understand that an Earthcache is slightly different as there is no actual cache, but the principle of inviting people onto the island remains the same.

The main reasons for saying no on the Worm are for health and safety, as it is a tidal island, and there are a number of strandings every year. The presence of Coastwatch at the Lookout has helped, but has served to highlight the things people do when they find the causeway partly covered -such as wade or try to swim back!

We have taken the decision not to encourage people to go onto the Worm directly, but do lead guided walks for those who want to know more about it or do not have the confidence to cross the causeway itself on their own.

A map overlay (.kml) showing the area covered can be downloaded here.

The map overlays can be downloaded and opened in Google Earth which is a free download for a PC and also as apps for Apple and Android. (N.B. These maps do not form part of any legal representation of land ownership and are created simply as a guide to areas for the purposes of placing a geocache container or marking an area where these are not permitted).

Area Covered

Wales/South Wales.
